 | The Infant Magnet Jun 20 1856 from The Liverpool Mercury Transcription of text in document
Extraordinary powers of a child. Those who ... in such matters may now witness some of those ... but inexplicable manifestations ascribed to mesmeric or magnetic influence. The subject of this power is a little girl aged eleven years, daughter of Mr S. Smith, tailor, Benson Street. By simply placing her hand upon any article, she removes it as if by some magic influence, with the greatest ease imaginable. As a test of these singular efforts it may be stated that she has no difficulty in raising from a table large pressing irons used by tailors. Two of these are respectively 17lbs. and 21lbs. weight, and could not be moved in a similar manner by a powerful man. On several occasions she lifted chairs, tables, and other articles of furniture, and performed almost incredible feats of a similar kind. This singular power was first exhibited about nine months ago, and at that time she had never been placed under the influence of mesmerism. She was ony mesmerised a few ... ago, and is considered a highly sensitive subject.
